Why do you use tallow in some of your products? Is it eco-conscious or cruelty-free?
We love tallow for its nourishing properties and it's long-standing history of use in skincare. Tallow has many skin-loving properties. It's full of vitamins A, D, E, and K, that are all wonderful for skin health.
Tallow is one of the most environmentally friendly ingredients out there! Grass-fed tallow is produced without pesticides, fertilizers or industrial processing. Grass-fed cows raised on regenerative farms actually sequester carbon back into the earth. We buy our tallow from farms we know who raise cows regeneratively to provide food for the community. Tallow is an often underused product that may otherwise go to waste.
Do you have any Vegan products?
Our Goldenoil and Plantwater are both plant based and are vegan.
How am I supposed to store my products?
Store your products in a cool, dark place.
Are your ingredients organic?
Yes. We have the ability to source and incorporate organic ingredients (and often local!) into our formulations with the rare exception of certain plants that may be very difficult to find in organic crops or are wildcrafted.
What happens if my tallow cream melts?
Don't worry! If your tallow melts, when it cools it will still be usable, just in a slightly more "balm" like consistency.
Do you offer wholesale?
Yes! Please reach out to us and we'll get back to you.
Are your products high in PUFA's? What are PUFA's?
FOLK is committed to offering low PUFA products by prioritizing saturated and monounsaturated fats. And we never use oils that contain more than 10% polyunsaturated fats. It’s just not worth it.
All fats are comprised of 3 types of fatty acids: saturated (SFA), monounsaturated (MUFA) and polyunsaturated (PUFA).
Polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs), are problematic due to an unstable hydrogen bond. This chemical instability makes them highly prone to oxidation. Oxidation produces free radicals which cause our cells to age. The more PUFAs we eat or apply to our bodies, the more susceptible we are to inflammation and free radical damage. Other issues related to PUFAs may include reduced immunity, insomnia, learning difficulties and premature aging, just to name a few.
The most common high-PUFA oils include safflower, soy, grapeseed, sunflower, linseed (flax), rosehip, argan, borage, evening primrose, almond, sesame, soy, etc.
We are not here to create more free radical damage, metabolic stress and inflammation. We’re getting enough of this already from pollution, constant stress, processed foods and other byproducts of 21st century life. Our products may be a bit more expensive for this reason, but why create cheaper products that achieve exactly the opposite of what you buy them for? Personally, we don’t want to use them. So we don’t make them either.
